It is a lot more work, but I find the results worth the effort.

meemsnyc, thanks

Ribbit, I'm guessing it only makes a difference if you have an issue of some disease or insect pest. If you have an area without such issues, it probably doesn't matter. Usually disagreements over how to do things in the garden arise from differing conditions or expectations.

The Apple Pie Gal, you're welcome

Angela, Just planting the clove works for many. And I think good soil is more important than anything else. If the plant grows well, it can resist a lot.

Laundryontheline, it isn't too late to plant in most places. I don't know where you live, but it if it is in the US, plant away.

kitsapFG, I hate the small cloves too. Though I always use them up first to get rid of them. Next year. Hmm nothing? I'll be happy I think not to have a deadline for such things. I'm still not sure what I'm going to write for November as the gardening year will be mostly over.

Ohiofarmgirl, you're welcome, and I'm glad I gave you a good excuse to bring out the vodka in the garden.

JGH, good luck.

Sandy, Oh I love that variety. It makes the nicest heads with large cloves for cooking. I hope it does as well for you.

Courtney, I'm sure it will grow just fine. A good bed is more important than the rest of it.
