It can be absorbed through your skin. It is in most of the solanum family and I breathed it in. My guess is that I'm sensitive to it too. So if I grow tomatoes and peppers again, when I work in them it will be fully covered and masked. I'll also use gloves to pull out our numerous nightshade plants that are weeds in the garden. I rarely have anything in the crisper that long but once in a while I get a huge harvest of greens in the spring and cannot use them up fast enough.
