This year I kept my carrot...That is useful to know. This year I kept my carrots in the fridge as there wasn't all that many. Last year wasn't the best year for fall carrots for me (bad timing due to a vacation). I do find I can shove a lot of them in there at the back though. Some years I process a lot of them and freeze them. I do like them fresh though. I get so few fresh vegetables over the winter that I didn't cook many of them this year. When I see leaves I check every carrot, and cut off the leaves and as much of the stump they sprout from as possible. This year I did that in mid-January, and after 2 months only a few have sprouted more leaves.
