I'm growing Sun Tropic - a variety of hemp - that is supposed to help with nematodes. Time will tell. I also buy nematode resistant seed if at all possible.Melissahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05816466342768789620noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3698134075709295915.post-6488684521625258012012-06-25T11:10:38.654-04:002012-06-25T11:10:38.654-04:00thanks for the good info on squash vine borer, and...thanks for the good info on squash vine borer, and the GDDs. i will plant a second "backup" round of my curcubits. now i just need to battle the cucumber beetles.donnahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12659999755051008318noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3698134075709295915.post-33838774876795254352012-06-25T08:06:58.171-04:002012-06-25T08:06:58.171-04:00Liz I got your comment via email, but don't se...Liz I got your comment via email, but don't see it here on the blog. Ah well. I don't know if your trouble is the same. The only way I knew that was a problem was when I pulled my carrots I could see them there. It seemed like a reasonable assumption that my others in the same family were being killed by the same thing.Daphne Gouldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17305049560953735881noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3698134075709295915.post-40884463260375415202012-06-24T23:43:58.187-04:002012-06-24T23:43:58.187-04:00Wow, it's so interesting to hear about garden ...Wow, it's so interesting to hear about garden pests on the other side of the world. I've never heard of either of these pests and I certainly have never had parsley look like that picture. It grows like a weed in my garden, good thing I love it. Carrots on the other hand I have all sorts of problems growing, getting the seeds to germinate and the seedlings to survive. They seem to need such constant watering and hate drying out, which can be hard here. I've finally got a few on the go at the moment and we're having regular rain which they seem to be liking.

My biggest problem in garden is powdery mildew which did in my zukes and pumpkins over the summer. I really to get on top of it better this year, it can spread to almost everything in the garden if you don't deal with it.Barbara Goodhttp://thenewgoodlife.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3698134075709295915.post-73360301336356592702012-06-24T19:09:34.056-04:002012-06-24T19:09:34.056-04:00I think all bets are off this year for the garden....I think all bets are off this year for the garden. I used to be troubled by them when growing and living in central Washington (much drier and warmer clime) but have not had a one since growing here in the wetter/cooler side of the state. Now that I say that I just jinxed myself that they will come in biblical plague proportions! LOL! It could be we never truly get warm enough long enough for them to get through their lifecycle successfully.kitsapFGhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06120640838501186514noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3698134075709295915.post-36642808125310562792012-06-23T16:38:15.407-04:002012-06-23T16:38:15.407-04:00I tried dill 3 times this year, and never could ge...I tried dill 3 times this year, and never could get a plant to live long enough to get a harvest. I thought it was the seeds and bought a second set of seeds from a new source. Now I am wondering if it wasn't the nematodes. This is a very informative post.Cristyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11885394458317264217noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3698134075709295915.post-11321101336486792082012-06-23T13:49:11.438-04:002012-06-23T13:49:11.438-04:00I am always hit with the squash vine borers. I try to grow as organically as possible, but I have been reduced to using neem oil, which is omri approved, as judiciously as possible on the stems. It has worked for me; last year I got my first successes with winter squash.nutmeg gardenerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06497061826533988682noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3698134075709295915.post-11057616372477891472012-06-23T13:37:00.078-04:002012-06-23T13:37:00.078-04:00I'm really disappointed in the carrot crop (or...I'm really disappointed in the carrot crop (or lack of it) this year. I've never run low on carrots before, and I've already harvested every usable one. I have a lot more planted, but there will be a long dry spell where I have to buy them from the store. Hopefully, I've found somewhere in the several spots they're planted where nematodes won't ruin them.Annie*s Grannyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04772261218172078099noreply@blogger.com
