Harvest Monday, 30 March 2015

Lunch

No spring harvests yet. We again had a bit of snow this weekend. I'm beginning to sound like a broken record with that. But it was just a dusting and the surfaces that had melted out already were warm enough to keep it from sticking. I've been slowly hardening off my window boxes with lettuce and Asian greens in it. But not slowly enough as I have some sunburn on one of the types of lettuce. All of the other plants were fine with how quickly I was doing it. I guess I'm getting impatient.

Dinner

Cooking from my stores is the same as last week too. I still have plenty of orange vegetables - sweet potatoes, squash, and carrots. But the green vegetables are from the market.

Harvest Monday is a day to show off your harvests, how you are saving your harvest, or how you are using your harvest. If you have a harvest you want to show off, add your name and link to Mr Linky below.

  1. Hopefully that will be the last snow you get this season. I imagine everyone there is pretty tired of it by now!

  2. We got a few inches here the other day, but overall the winter's accumulation is gradually melting. I can even see little sections of stone wall emerging through the snow...Spring is coming! In the next few weeks, the view will become completely different than what it has been for the past several months. Whew!

  3. Woke up to snow this morning, 3/30/15, could not believe my eyes when I looked out the windows. Glad I choose to post about the Conservatory Gardens at Central Park today.

  5. Seeing your squash reminds me I need to use mine that is stored in the garage.

  6. We actually had a mini-blizzard last night...I was SO not impressed, especially as I saw the ground turning white. Thankfully, it was all gone this morning...I wish the "real" spring would hurry up and get here. Do I say that every year? Probably.

  7. I too was a bit quick putting some of my green babies outdoors. It is amazing what some sunshine and a warmish breeze will encourage a gardener to do!

I am continually amazed that you still have food from your garden to eat. You are an inspiration. Thanks.

  8. I'm starting to harden off a tray of veggies today, I send mine straight out to a shady spot in the garden and they seem to do fine as long as I keep them out of direct sunlight for a few days.

  12. We're getting some warm days now, I've been busy planting out some greens, tomato seedlings are moving up to 4" pots, waiting for the "last frost" day before putting them into the ground.

  14. Wow, your carrots sure lasted a long time, great job on the storage! I never seem to have enough to get me through December (clearly I need more space dedicated to carrots!). Just got home after driving through snow for about 20 mins. But no worries, temps above zero now so nothing is sticking around for long!

  17. HI! Your meals are so pretty. I am afraid when it is time to harden off my plants that I will ruin them! Hope not! Nancy
