There is only one time when your harvest gets messed up and you still don't care. That is vacation. We are at the peak of harvest season and I've been off in Montreal since Wednesday. That means that I only had harvests on Monday and Tuesday. Tuesday's harvest was pretty large to make up for it. I didn't have anyone looking after my garden while I was gone so I tried to pick off anything I thought wouldn't make it until I got back.
This was Monday's harvest. It was a nice little haul with a bit over a pound of Sungolds. A small handful of peas, a few tomatillos and peppers, one zucchini and one onion.
This was Tuesday's harvest. I picked all the Sungolds that we at least half ripe. I packed them up and brought them with me to Montreal. As I write this (on Tuesday of last week), I'm hoping to have eaten them as snacks all week long on my vacation. There were over two pounds of tomatoes. Yum. I also picked all my Komatsuna to freeze for the winter. The harvest also includes, chamomile, jalapenos, serranos, tomatillos, peas, beans, cucumbers and a single zucchini. Much of what was picked was put away for the winter for the winter.
So here are the weekly tally totals:
- Alliums 0.14
- Beans 0.24 lbs
- Cucurbits 0.91 lbs
- Greens 1.69 lbs
- Herbs 0.03 lbs
- Peas 0.16 lbs
- Peppers 0.60 lbs
- Tomatillo 0.07
- Tomatoes 4.23 lbs
Weekly total: 8.06 lbs
Weekly spent: $0
Yearly total: 67.11 lbs
Yearly earned: $176.28
If you would like to join in showing off your harvest, put your name and URL into Mr. Linky below. It doesn't matter how big or small your harvest is. You don't have to count the pounds like I do. If you have had a harvest this last week, join in!
I wish I could take a vacation...I'm about worn out with this gardening and canning! And what did I do this week? I planted more, of course.
ReplyDeleteHey Daphne, have a great time in Montreal!
ReplyDeleteYour harvest looks yummy.
Granny, I can't picture you worn out... you sure out do all of us!
Hope you're having a great time in Montreal. I was there around this time last year, coincidentally!
ReplyDeleteHope your garden behaves itself while you're away.
Montreal is my favorite city in all of North America! I hope you had a marvelous time! We've been enjoying our Sungolds as well. Yum!!!
ReplyDeleteDaphne, Oh I would love to be on vacation now. But I can't complain about getting to spend time in my garden. I've posted about the glut of zucchini that is coming out of my garden.
ReplyDeleteI hope you're enjoying Montreal. Those sungolds look great!
ReplyDeleteLook at all those sungolds, just gorgeous! I like your torpedo onion too, I would like to try them next year. Enjoy your stay in Canada Eh.... :-)
ReplyDeleteSo is it a pain to weigh everything? I think I might try it this Autumn.
ReplyDeleteGreat looking harvest, by the way.
It’s my first time participating in Monday Harvest. Seems my garden is starting to produce now that we have some sunny, dry, and warmer weather.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are enjoying your vacation (and the sungold tomatoes you brought with you) in Montreal.
It's not a pain to weigh. I do it when I come in from the garden and before I put things up. Daphne, your harvests look fantastic. I can't wait for the fall crops to start coming in here.
ReplyDeleteThis is my first time participating too. Mine are slim pickings compared to everyone here, lol. WTG, all !
ReplyDeleteThx for hosting the event, Daphne. Your garden is splendid. :)
Hope you enjoy your stay in Montreal.
What are you going to do with the tomatillo? I'm growing some for the first time this year but can't find any recipes that aren't salsa!
ReplyDeleteI ate my cabbage and some of the tomatoes I picked yesterday, for my dinner last night, and sure did enjoy the fresh veggies.
ReplyDeleteYou sure are getting plenty of produce from your garden and it all looks so good.
Lovely. I hope you have a great vacation. I'm keeping tallies, but what I'm hoping is that they're going to be so much bigger next year!
ReplyDeleteAnnie's Granny, lol gardens can be so much work. The canning is even more. I haven't done much canning yet. I need to get those cucumbers and tomatoes ramped up.
ReplyDeleteToni, thanks. I had a really great time.
Amanda, I did. The garden on the other hand just kept growing. Except my eggplants they seem to have had a few issues :<
our friend Ben, I did and I must say, they have such good food there.
Michelle, I worried so much about leaving the garden. I had no one taking care of it but it seemed to have lived through it. Even my makeshift irrigation system.
Emily, I did thanks.
Dan, I came home to even more sungolds. I keep meaning to do a taste test, but every week it changes. I can't figure out why the taste is changing so much from day to day.
theconservativegardener, No it isn't a pain to weigh them. I keep the scale on the counter in my kitchen. They get weighed as soon as they are trimmed up. However it is a pain to remember to weigh them. I also tend to eat cherry tomatoes right from the plant and they don't make it into the tally.
GrafixMuse, I've been really happy with the nice sunny weather we have finally been getting. It really makes those tomatoes sweeter.
Ribbit, thanks. We have such different seasons. I'm just starting to get my summer crops and you are thinking about your fall harvests.
Miss M, thanks, it was quite a fun vacation.
thedroolingvegetable, I'm making salsa ;> lol yup that is what people do with them. You can make sauces with them too, but I haven't done it.
keewee, your cabbage looked so good too. I love the weirdly shaped ones.
Stafaneener, I know what you mean. My bean, zucchini and cucumber harvest is so much smaller than last yer. I hope next year everything produces well. It never does. Every year something doesn't do as well.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of taking your own Sungold snacks on holiday with you.
ReplyDeleteA taste of home whilst away !
I've only had a side shoot of broccoli and a few beans in the past week, but you know when I'll have more you can read about it.
ReplyDeleteGreat yield this past week. Hope you enjoyed your vacation.
