Harvest Monday - November 14, 2011

You are expecting a big harvest from me aren't you? Well not this week. Above is my one and only harvest. I don't even have to tell you the weight as the scale shows you. It isn't even enough to make me update my sidebar tally. The parsley was picked for ham and bean soup.

I've eaten a lot from the garden, but it was all picked on previous weeks or from storage. I had so many Asian greens, chard and carrots I never got through them all. I still have some in the fridge. With the CSA over and my townhouse mates away on vacation last week, finishing up my greens is all on me. And really how many pounds can I eat in a week?

Harvest Monday is a day to show off your harvests, how you are saving your harvest, or how you are using your harvest. If you have a harvest you want to show off, add your name and link to Mr Linky below.

  1. Looks like it's a green kind of week! How do you grow your parsley in the cold months? Are they under plastic?

  2. I love parsley and mine has gone to seed. Even when you only have one small item I'm still covetting your harvest.....

  3. Any harvest is a good harvest! It sounds like you have been eating well from your garden.

  4. Our parsley is about to flower. I heard that parsley is cold tolerant. It will be lovely to have constant fresh parsley harvest.

  6. Nothing much coming from our garden either. I'm hoping maybe a few more greens when the weather warms a tad. Finger's crossed. Sharing a gardening post anyway!

  7. It sounds like your prior week harvest was good for several weeks! I tend to bank up harvests during the winter months because it is too dark and rainy or cold when I get home from work to try and do to many mid week fresh harvests. That coupled with using a much larger proportion of storage and preserved items makes the harvesting much more sporadic from November through February.

  8. Parsley is one herb that I have a lot of difficulty growing. I can never seem to have enough of it available - and we use a lot of it. I find it very susceptible to attacks by pests such as Carrot Root Fly.

  9. My parsley went to seed, and then self-sowed in the herb garden. I have a zillion baby plants coming up right now. Yahoo!

  10. Actually, I'm glad you mentioned your tally - I forgot to update mine! Ham and bean soup.... oh it's time to rock the crock pot soon - maybe next week. ;-)

  11. try not to turn green from eating all those veggies all by yourself! ;)

  12. The time change doesn't help. It's harder to go pick something from the garden at dinner time when it's totally dark out there :)

  13. Definitely that time of year when the garden slows down. I thought my parsley was long gone from a caterpillar attack, but it has managed to send up a new shoot. Good luck tackling all those greens!

  14. That's how some harvests are at this time of year! I have some lingering summer vegetables to show off this week, a bit more color before the harvests turn green green green.

  15. We were the same way for most of the week. We used up what was in the fridge and used quite a bit of storage as well. I didn't even need to open the cold frames until yesterday to pick us a salad.

  16. I had similarly "impressive" harvests, thus no posts for a couple of weeks. But I'm back in the game now.
Ham and bean soup sounds good - too many yummy things I want to cook and eat, too few days when I have time for cooking!

  17. I love seeing all that your grow. I would love to as well, but need to learn how to freeze/store/cook up things with all these items. Summer is so short we'd never use it in that time frame. That parsley looks so full and beautiful.

  18. A harvest is a harvest no matter how small.

  19. A small harvest is better than no harvest. But look at all you've stockpiled and grown this year. Fantastic. I have a lot of parsley this year and have been chopping it and adding it to soups at the last minute.

  20. I got skunked this week. For some reason the parsley started a growth spurt in late September and now there is way more than I can use. But parsley is good with about anything.

  21. Hi Daphne, I have a unique harvest report for this week. I have been working for months now on a project from flowers I harvested from my garden. I know, you can't eat this harvest, but I've really sunk my teeth into it :) and was excited to share! have a great Monday.
