Winter Wonderland

I'm so glad I just finished cleaning up the garden because this is what I woke up to this morning.

Nature has put her fanciest outfit on for the new holiday season. Even the compost pile look pretty.

I did forget one thing. I forgot to turn off the spigots and drain them for the winter. I think I'll wait until it gets above freezing for that chore.

  1. Isn't the first snowfall beautiful. I bet it won't be so beautiful for you by the end of the season, however. ;)

  2. I love it! It looks like you got a little bit more than we did. Fun!

  3. Good grief! That's more snow than we get in a year! You got all the chores done in the nick of time!

  4. Looks like what we got last spring. We have a water bowl with 1/2 inch of ice, for Durham that is cold!

  5. That is so pretty! But, being the weather wimp that I am, I'm happy to view it at a distance. 28F outside when I got up this morning, that's cold enough for me.

  6. That is a picture! Enjoy it. The first one is always a treat.

  8. Beautiful winter wonderland scene! We have an arctic cold front settled over us bring really cold temperatures - but no insulating snow. Like you, I forgot to remove the hoses from the spigots ahead of the freezes and am going to try and get to it this afternoon if it warms up enough to unfreeze it sufficiently to allow me to work the threads of the connector.

  9. Ribbit, lol, nope my MIL was saying the same thing to me this morning. I won't be nearly so happy in March when I want the ground to thaw.

The Mom, our little hill gets a good amount of snow. Much more than the surrounding areas. Right now I'm loving it. If it is another really snowy winter like the last one, I'll be dreading it.

Lzyjo, ha! This is nothing, just a few inches. We still haven't decided if it will melt out yet or we have to get out and shovel. The ground isn't frozen yet so it tends to melt pretty fast.

Randy Emmit, it would be for there. I always wonder what it would be like to live in a place where I have a chance of keeping things growing over the winter. But the skis will come out if we get any real snow and then I'll be happy.

Michelle, that is about the same temps as we got. The closest weather station said 27.3F. I really wish I had one of those myself. I just love watching the weather and to have my own station would bee too much fun.

    Stefaneener, thanks.

Miss M, only because I was watching the weather and made sure to get out and do it. I still didn't finish chopping all my leaves, but I can do it in the spring when I'm looking for outdoor things to do.

kitsapFG, we do too. Thusday night we may even get into the teens. Brrrr. The garden will be frozen solid then. I think the chard I left in is a goner. Today is supposed to get up to 38F so the spigots ought to be OK for me to unfreeze. I'm thinking of you are getting this weather too, it is sweeping across the whole country.

  10. A big difference from the other day! We got some snow too and are slowly melting today.

I also forgot to drain the rain barrel. Not sure what will happen, but I generally do drain that thing.

  11. Oh Daphne - it's beautiful!!! I even went and got my husband to come and look at your pics. I'm so jealous of winters...until it gets cold here and then I'm a basketcase. It really is one of the most beautiful times of year in my opinion.

  12. Ahhh! I forgot to turn off and drain the spigots too...the things you forget when you move into a new home. It's just that for a while there, it seemed as though we were going to skip winter all together. No such luck. It looks like you got a the same amount of snow as we did.

  13. Wendy, I'd go drain those barrels. The expanding water can't be good for it. But there is a small part of me that wants to know if it can handle it.

Kate, I feel that way about the South. I get jealous of the early springs and the longer growing season. Then summer hits and I'm happy to be here. I'm a heat wimp.

Thomas, one year I forgot totally to do it. Luckily no burst pipes, but its risky.
