Yesterday my neighbor brought out his trimmer to knock the weeds down that line his driveway. These weeds line my garden too. In past years he has always used herbicides to take them down, but this year he hasn't. I think he is trying to avoid killing my garden. I have such nice neighbors.
But I figured I ought to weed out my eyesore too. This spot hasn't been fixed up since I want a shed in the corner, but since there is no mulch it grows tons of weeds. I'm dithering on the shed. I would like a pretty wooden shed. My handyman will make it for me for $1200 but dang that is a lot of money for a shed for a couple of tools. I can get an OK plastic one for $300-400. It has a place for tools on one side and a place to put fertilizer on the other. I'm thinking I might go cheap this time.
Yes I do believe it looks a lot nicer now. Eventually I'll want to put some plants for the beneficials in this corner too. Something perennial so they have a place to overwinter. I am so in need of beneficials this year.
WOW! Your corn looks so rich and green! I wish mine looked like that this year. Mine is more of a lime color and I don't know why.
ReplyDeleteThat does look much better. Having a garden shed or shop is definitely worthwhile and this looks like a great corner to tuck one into.
ReplyDeleteLooks good Daphne! I think that you should keep the table and buckets for awhile......you can't have your garden perfect when nobody else's is!!! :)
ReplyDeleteOh, I just love your bee pics....they are beautiful!!!!
I've been following your blog for a few months now, and this is the first one that I felt I needed to comment.
ReplyDeletePlease don't do a plastic shed! You'll be so upset after a little while with how a plastic one will look. Not to mention that you won't be able to customize the plastic one to near the extent of the wooden one. Even small things like putting nails in the wall to hold up tools.

Can you build a wooden shed yourself? They probably have kits.
ReplyDeleteMuch better! I don't have a problem with weeds in my garden now, but the new neighbor's weeds are making their way under the fence and will soon go to seed, so I expect to have weeds next year. This sandy soil makes them quite easy to pull though.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jacob, find yourself a kit and build one from wood! I love my shed.
I agree with other commenters: you would never be happy with a plastic shed. Save up if you must, but go for a wooden one. They last years, so think of it as a long-term investment.
ReplyDeleteLooking sharp now! Doesn't that just FEEL better too?
ReplyDeleteNow-about the shed. Do NOT go cheap. Those plastic sheds dry out in a couple years time. The doors warp. You will not be happy with it. Better to spend a bit upfront and have something that will last (and look a WHOLE LOT BETTER).
Sorry. Just an opinion.....
That corn does look good, what variety is it? I agree with others, don't go plastic. You can get those metal sheds pretty cheap and they look pretty good.
ReplyDeleteDaphne, I have to agree with the others... don't do plastic. You'll hate it after 15 minutes. We did that - same reason - and I SO want a REAL wooden potting shed!
ReplyDeleteGet the shed of your dreams, Girl. You deserve it!
Yes, it looks much better now :) A little shed or greenhouse would look very cute in that corner.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean since our garden are still baby as well. This winter I feel much better with having some perennials in the garden now.
ReplyDeleteEvery gardener needs a shed. I paid like $700 for one of those metal ones which lasted one winter. It collapsed with only 4" of snow on it. Last fall my son in law built me a nice wooden one that I don't have to worry about keeping the some off. I think it is 10x12 and you can't get your foot in it once fall comes. Plus one bay of the garage to devoted to gardening and yard maintenance. I think I have too many toys.
ReplyDeleteOn sheds. Well we have a plastic shed for the bikes. So far so good. And it matches our plastic house. lol The shed is almost the same yellow as the plastic siding. I can't do a prefab wooden one. I want one that is small. 6'x3'. I could just make it. I have made thing bigger than that before. But I don't enjoy doing it. I think I'd get my handyman to make it. He'd make just what I want.
ReplyDeleteAnd as to a greenhouse. That fence in the back is along the south east side of the yard. It would be a bad place for a greenhouse since it wouldn't get enough sun. The fence is 6' high. That is why I designed the space to put a shed there. The table and buckets will stay. It is a working corner of the yard. It is right beside the compost piles.
